Your data, plainly explained.

Who we are
Interview Expert is operated by Great X Inc (Taiwan). We're the data controller for the information described below. Reach us at support@interviewexpert.ai.
What we collect, and why
Audio recordings of your practice answers
When you record an answer to an interview question, the audio is captured on your iPhone and transcribed using Apple's Speech framework, which processes on-device where available (Apple's servers may assist for some languages and devices). The resulting transcript and speaking metrics are sent to our backend so we can generate coaching feedback. On Android the audio is captured the same way and transcribed by Android's on-device speech recognizer.
We upload the recording of your spoken answer to our servers to score your pronunciation and delivery. This is how both the iPhone app and the Android app work: on either phone, the recording leaves your device and reaches our servers. It is transcribed and analysed there, and it is also sent to our speech-to-text provider and to Google Gemini to produce that assessment. Recordings are held in private storage that is not publicly reachable.
By default we delete that recording within 7 days. We keep it for longer only if you turn on saved recordings so you can play back past answers. You can ask us to delete your recordings at any time — see our data deletion page at interviewexpert.ai/delete-data.
Transcripts and practice metadata
Your transcripts, attempt scores, alternative phrasings you've practiced, and notes generated by our AI coach are stored on our backend (hosted on Supabase, AWS Asia-Pacific Tokyo region) so your practice history is backed up and always available for review. If you set a target role or company, or paste in a resume, that context is also sent to our backend to personalize your questions and feedback.
We use this data only to power the app's coaching, history, and mastery tracking features. We do not sell it, share it with advertisers, or train third-party models on it.
A device identifier
We generate a random UUID stored in your iPhone's Keychain to associate your synced data with your specific device. This identifier is not your Apple ID, your phone number, your email, or anything that identifies you personally. The Android app generates and stores the same kind of random identifier on your phone, and sends it with every request to our servers for the same purpose.
Technical context (briefly)
Standard server logs (IP address, timestamp, request path) are kept temporarily to detect abuse and debug failures. These are auto-rotated and not used for any other purpose.
Your recordings and how long we keep them
We keep an uploaded recording only as long as we need it to produce and correct your pronunciation and delivery scores: by default it is deleted within 7 days.
Your scores and speaking metrics are kept, so your progress over time is unaffected — none of the progress charts need a stored recording.
We keep recordings for longer only if you opt in. If you turn on “Save my recordings” so you can play back past answers, they are kept until you turn saving off or delete them. Saving is off unless you turn it on, and turning it off deletes the recordings you have saved.
You can have your recordings deleted at any time on request. In the iOS app, Settings → Delete all my data removes your stored recordings along with everything else, on your phone and on our servers alike. Our data deletion page at interviewexpert.ai/delete-data explains the full process, including how to request deletion by email if you no longer have the app installed.
What we do NOT collect
- No name, email, or phone number is required to use the app.
- No tracking across other apps or websites. (See our App Store privacy declaration for the formal version.)
- No advertising identifiers (IDFA) accessed.
- No location data.
- No contacts, photos, calendar, or microphone access beyond what you explicitly grant for recording answers.
Third parties we use
We do not use any analytics, marketing, advertising, or session-replay third parties.
- Supabase (database, edge functions, file storage): our backend infrastructure provider. Data is stored in their AP-Northeast-1 (Tokyo) region.
- Google Gemini API, our AI coaching model. Your transcripts and the recording of your spoken answer are sent to Gemini for evaluation and pronunciation scoring. Per Google's API terms, this data is not used to train Google's models.
- Deepgram, Inc., our speech-to-text provider. Uploaded recordings are sent to Deepgram to produce a transcript with word-level timings. Deepgram processes recordings on our behalf, as our service provider.
- Apple App Store / IAP handles all payment processing. We never see your payment details.
AI personalization, feedback, and Google Gemini
What we collect: to generate AI feedback we collect the interview and practice answers you submit (spoken answers as both a transcript and the recording we upload to score your pronunciation and delivery), any target role, company, or resume context you choose to provide, and basic usage data (attempt scores, practice metadata, and standard technical logs).
How we collect it: answers you type are captured directly in the app; spoken answers are recorded on your device, transcribed, and uploaded to our servers (see “What we collect, and why”). The recording, transcript, metrics, and any context are sent to our backend over an encrypted connection.
How it is used: we use this data solely to power the app — generating AI feedback and scores, follow-up and practice questions, interviewer voice output, and your saved history and mastery tracking. We do not sell it, share it with advertisers, or use it for cross-app tracking.
Sharing with Google Gemini (Google LLC): to produce this feedback, the text transcripts of your answers and the recording of your spoken answer are sent to the Google Gemini API, operated by Google LLC, which acts as our service provider. The details you enter, such as your target role and company, are also sent to Google Gemini to generate interview questions relevant to that company. Google processes this data only to return results to us and, per Google's API terms, does not use it to train Google's models. Google maintains security and privacy safeguards that provide a level of data protection equivalent to the protections described in this policy.
Your consent and control: the iOS app asks for your explicit consent before any of your data is sent to Google Gemini for the first time, and AI features stay off until you agree. You can withdraw consent at any time in the app under Settings → AI features; once withdrawn, no further data is sent to Google and AI features are unavailable until you opt in again.
Your rights
- Delete your data anytime. In the iOS app, Settings → Delete all my data is a complete deletion: it clears your data on your phone AND everything held under your device ID on our backend, including any stored recordings — apart from your entitlement (what you have paid for, and your used free-trial time) and anonymous analytics events, which are kept on purpose. If you no longer have the app installed, email support@interviewexpert.ai and we will delete it for you. Our data deletion page at interviewexpert.ai/delete-data walks you through both routes, and explains what is deliberately kept.
- Export your data anytime. Settings → Export my data gives you your transcripts and attempts as JSON, right on your phone.
- Stop using the app. Uninstalling removes all local data, but on its own it does not clear what we hold on our servers — use the iOS app's Settings → Delete all my data before uninstalling, or email us afterwards (see Your rights above).
Children
Interview Expert is intended for users 17 and older preparing for professional job interviews. We do not knowingly collect data from children under 13. If you believe we have, please contact us and we'll delete it immediately.
Changes to this policy
If we change anything material (what we collect, who we share with, how long we keep it), we'll update the "Last updated" date above and, for significant changes, surface a notice in the app.
